It’s Summer and I’m Feeling Stuck….

Hello friends!

I'm thrilled to be launching this newsletter "Musings from my Coaching Corner ". You are receiving this announcement because you're part of my incredible circle of friends. And I wanted to tell YOU first!

Moving forward, I'll be sending out some of my fave health and wellness tips to help you uncover your values, strengths, and motivations for change. Or I may send a thought I'm having, if I feel it might be interesting to you. Basically, I aim to provide a pause for thought and maybe a little inspiration.

So, this week I thought I would start with a question....

When was the last time you felt stuck?

I'm asking you this because it's how I've been feeling over the last month, and maybe you can relate.

Let me fill you in. I spent the first half of this year studying for the National Board Exam for Health & Wellness Coaching. It was kind of a big deal. Actually, it was a Really Big Deal! But after writing (and passing!) the exam, that's when this feeling of STUCKNESS landed.

You see, I knew the next step was to put myself out there.

And by *there* I mean in front of you like I'm doing right now, connecting with the people that I can help.

But putting myself out there felt super scary. Can you relate?

Why are we humans so prone to “stuckness”?

I see it all the time with my coaching clients -- people get stuck when the next move feels scary.

In my case, I was worried about putting myself out there because I couldn't control how people might receive my message. (Well of course I can’t….none of us can control how others think, react, and respond!)

It’s always hard for me to get out of that “controller” mindset. (Sound familiar?!)
But here's how I reframed my thinking.

We may not be able to control the outcome, but we CAN control our own response.

And when we encounter things that are out of our comfort zone, the unknown that comes with it can feel a little bit prickly. But if you do nothing, well, that's the SAFE thing! But it's also the STUCK thing.

So you challenge yourself to do the Uncomfortable Thing. Otherwise, every day you're going to ruminate on your own STUCKNESS, which is just the feeling you get when not taking action.

In order to move forward, I decided to analyze the steps I'd need to take in the direction of the Uncomfortable Thing.

To do this, I recommend putting pen to paper and doing a little journaling. Here are the questions to ask yourself:

1. What's one scary thing you can do now to help yourself get unstuck?

2. What's the worst thing that could happen if you do that thing? (Be honest!)

3. What would it feel like to do that thing? (Really imagine it. Like, "Oh my gosh I really can be kind of amazing after all!)

4. And then on the flip side, what would the future you feel like if you don't do that thing?

Do you see how powerful a little reframing can be? Because ultimately, no matter what anyone else says or does, it is up to us to manage our emotions.

And by managing our emotions, we gain control, so that we can move forward and out of STUCKNESS.

Here’s one thing I can say; once I finished this little newsletter it felt AMAZING (and scary!). But I’m hitting send and there’s no turning back from here.

Have a great week! I'll send my next thought out in 2 weeks...I hope you'll be there with me!

X Lorilyn
